AQWA The Aquarium of Western Australia has a fascinating history. Originally known as Underwater World, Perth, the aquarium opened its doors on 13 April 1988 with just two aquariums – the Shipwreck Coast and the Touch Pool. Over time, it evolved into the impressive 10th-largest aquarium in the world, with over 40 exhibits. In 1991, the aquarium was acquired by Coral World International and Morris Kahn, leading to a name change to AQWA on 1 January 2001. While AQWA is now known for its diverse collection of marine life, it’s worth noting that the aquarium once housed a family of dolphins from 1992 to 1999. Though the reasons for their death are still unknown, it’s a poignant reminder of the importance of providing safe and comfortable habitats for all creatures.
